Purpose & Scope
Sometimes software needs sufficient 'rights' within Windows in order to write to the Registry or folders protected by Windows.  This article tells you how to configure a software program to run with sufficient rights.

You need to find the program or its shortcut and set a property option 'On'.  Here are the steps:

  1. Locate either the short cut or the executable program (*.exe).  EXE files will either be in C:\Program Files\  in 32 bit versions of Windows or C:\Program Files (x86)\ on 64 bit Windows so, for Dakota that might be C:\Program Files (x86)\BioComp Systems\Dakota300.
  2. Right-click on the exe or short-cut and select 'Properties'
  3. Select the 'Compatibility' tab
  4. In the lower part of the Compatibility tab, click-ON the option 'Run this program as an administrator'
  5. Click OK

When you start the program each time hence forward you may be greeted with a 'User Account Control' dialog.  Click 'Yes' each time.

Additional Comments
Unfortunately at times this is necessary due to Windows' built-in security controls.
